While Hollywood is a great place to realize your dream of becoming a star, it has also gained notoriety for breaking even the most loved-up couples. Although it's not impossible to find your better half in this industry, we have witnessed how many romantic stories resulted in costly divorces that often hit the headlines.

It's a process that no one wants to go through, especially for A-listers, because the public will always have a say even in others' personal lives. Unfortunately, not all former flames end things amicably while others come up with a settlement.

HEIDI KLUM & SEAL - SETTLEMENT: NONE

When renowned model Heidi Klum went through a divorce with musician Seal in 2014, she had gone through a similar experience with her first husband, hair stylist Ric Pipino, in 2002. The famous "America's Got Talent" judge and her ex-second husband didn't raise a storm, having agreed to a mutual settlement following their separation.

Having signed a postnup during their marriage, Heidi and Seal agreed to keep their incomes separate, preventing them from seeking spousal support from each other. The duo has kept their custody arrangement details secret, with the former "Project Runway" host moving on and getting married to guitarist Tom Kaulitz in 2019.

SOFÍA VERGARA & JOE MANGANIELLO - SETTLEMENT: PENDING DETERMINATION

"Different attitudes" was adduced as the reason that made actress and TV personality Sofía Vergara terminate her first marriage to Joe Gonzalez, which lasted three years. Unfortunately, the "Modern Family" actress would go through a similar process, separating from her seven-year marriage with actor Joe Manganiello in July 2023, pending their divorce.

While plans for the duo's divorce were pending as of October 2023, the Daily Mail reported that they drifted apart owing to "different attitudes." Each of them is concentrating on their screen work, with Sofía holding down her judging role on "America's Got Talent" while Joe rocked in "The Kill Room" in 2023.

RIA SOMMERFELD & TOM KAULITZ -SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

She's a famous model and hairdresser in Germany, her home country, but Ria Sommerfeld is also known for having won the Miss Philippines Germany pageant in 2004. Her international fame grew further after marrying guitarist Tom Kaulitz in June 2015. However, as fate would have it, the duo divorced three years later, in August 2018.

While Ria's relationship remains a tightly kept secret and wasn't known to be dating as of October 2023, Tom, who cited "irreconcilable differences" to TMZ as the cause of their divorce, moved on swiftly. The songwriter-producer, who declined to give his ex-wife spousal support, has since been married to model and businesswoman Heidi Klum.

JANE FONDA & RICHARD PERRY – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Coming from a family of celebrities, Jane Fonda was bound to enter show business at some point. When she finally did become a massive star known for her films like "Klute," "Barbarella," and "Coming Home," the public became enamored with her love life. The iconic actress has been married thrice including getting out of an eight-year relationship with Richard Perry.

After calling it quits, the former love birds, who reportedly stayed amicable as per Page Six, sold their house in Beverly Hills for $13 million. Nonetheless, Perry confirmed that he and Fonda, who starred in "Grace and Frankie" in 2021, are friends even to this day.

MADONNA & GUY RITCHIE – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $76 MILLION - $92 MILLION

In 2021, Madonna spent her birthday week touring Italy with her boyfriend Ahlamalik Williams and her kids. She may happily be in a stable relationship these days. Still, long before, she endured a tumultuous marriage with Guy Ritchie, whom she ended up reportedly paying around $76 to $92 million after they split in 2008.

Madonna refuted the ridiculous amounts later but didn't disclose how much she had to pay her ex-husband. Interestingly, the singer, known for her hits like "Material Girl" and "Like A Prayer," is worth $850 million. As such, even if the amount was valid, it barely scratched her fortune.

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER & MARIA SHRIVER – SETTLEMENT: UNDISCLOSED

Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, known for starring in the "Terminator" franchise, used to be happily married to Maria Shriver. Their romance lasted for 25 years until 2011, when she filed for divorce following the revelation that the politician had fathered a child from another woman. According to Mirror, the former couple's estate was worth $400 million.

As of 2021, the pair have yet to finalize things; however, the former bodybuilder reportedly filed for a "declaration of disclosure" that may be a sign that they are nearing closure. Schwarzenegger had opened up about the affair in his biography.

ELIN NORDEGREN & TIGER WOODS – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $100 MILLION

Sportsman Tiger Woods is easily one of the best golfers of his generation. However, his reputation was tainted in 2010 after reports about an intimate video with another woman made the rounds on the Internet. His then-wife, Elin Nordegren, understandably filed for divorce following the malicious revelation.

Not only did the scandal taint Woods' reputation, but it also cost him a sizable amount after allegedly paying $100 million to Nordegren, according to HITC. Despite this, the golfer managed to stand again after this stumble and was spotted on the field in 2021, according to People.

HARRISON FORD & MELISSA MATHISON – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $85 MILLION

Back in the '70s, "Indiana Jones" actor Harrison Ford found love anew in Melissa Mathison, a screenwriter known for her works like "The BFG," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "The Black Stallion." From 1983 to 2004, the pair made their marriage work, resulting in two kids, Georgia and Malcolm.

However, Mathison filed for divorce in 2001 and cited irreconcilable differences. It was finalized three years later, and according to People, this split had cost Ford $85 million. The actor, who was filming the fifth "Indiana Jones" movie in 2021, is now married to Calista Flockhart.

MEL GIBSON & ROBYN MOORE – SETTLEMENT: $425 MILLION

Fans know Mel Gibson for his stellar performances in "Braveheart," "The Passion of the Christ," and "Lethal Weapon." On top of acting, he also dipped his toes into acting, which was how he amassed his fortune of $425 million as of 2021. But did you know that he would also go down in history as having one of the most expensive divorces in history?

In 2011, the pair announced that they were going their separate ways after three decades of marriage. The unfortunate event had led Gibson and Moore to divide their eye-popping $850 million estate.

TOBEY MAGUIRE & JENNIFER MEYER – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Actor Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer, who share two kids, announced that they were calling it quits in 2016. In an announcement sent to People, the pair seemed to have parted ways amicably and maintained they considered all options before making the decision. They said that their children would be their top priority.

The former flames also appeared to have taken a slow approach, only filing for divorce in October 2020. Since, both of them chose to become reclusive to the spotlight, although Maguire has moved on with Tatiana Dieteman, with whom he was spotted frequently in 2021.

HULK HOGAN & LINDA HOGAN – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $30 MILLION

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan may call everyone "brother," but that doesn't mean he got along well with everybody. When he and his ex-wife Linda Bollea broke up, they were embroiled in a messy divorce that ended up with a $30-million settlement. It was a complicated journey as the WWE superstar sued the website, Gawker, as well, for publishing an intimate video of him.

Hogan has closed this chapter of his life and has since moved on with a new woman, Jennifer McDaniel, who is over 20 years his junior. The pair got married in 2010 and have been seen together working out.

JEFF BEZOS & MACKENZIE BEZOS – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $68 BILLION

It's not surprising that Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos' high-profile divorce in 2019 is included on this list. As the man named the wealthiest in the world, analysts expected this to happen when the pair shockingly announced that they were separating after 25 years. Fans thought that their assets would be equally divided, but they settled matters privately.

Mackenzie, however, still walked away with $36 billion, a part of which she donated to charity. As for the Amazon founder, he found love shortly after in Lauren Sanchez. In 2021, the new love birds became the talk of the town for a clip that showed them and Leonardo DiCaprio.

MIRANDA LAMBERT & BLAKE SHELTON – SETTLEMENT: UNDISCLOSED

For a long while, country singers Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton seemed a match made in heaven. However, things didn't work out after trying to save their four years of marriage, and they eventually broke up in 2015. This came as a confirmation because they had been rumored to be on the rocks for months before.

In the same year, Shelton started dating his "The Voice" colleague, Gwen Stefani. Thankfully, things blossomed into a beautiful relationship as the new lovers tied the knot in 2021 in an intimate ceremony at his Oklahoma ranch.

GARTH BROOKS & SANDY MAHL – SETTLEMENT: $125 MILLION

Country singer Garth Brooks and Sandy Mahl met when they were students at Oklahoma State University. This means that she had been with him through his rise to stardom, having been married since the '80s. However, 15 years later, the couple announced that they were calling it quits in 1999.

Ironically, this was around the same time he said he would pause touring to focus on his family. According to Country Fan Cast, the divorce ended with Mahl receiving $125 million from her former lover. These days, Brooks is happily married to Trisha Yearwood.

TED DANSON & CASEY COATES – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $30 MILLION

According to a 2021 interview with People, actors Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen met in the '80s during the audition for "Cross Creek." The former, however, admitted that he wasn't ready to commit to a relationship at the time, describing himself as a "hot mess."

At the time, he was still married to Casey Coates, whom he went separate ways in the '90s. After giving birth to their daughter Kate, the mom suffered a stroke that left one side paralyzed. This allegedly affected their relationship so much as Danson had to take care of his wife and their baby.

DAVID SCHWIMMER & ZOE BUCKMAN – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

The NBC sitcom "Friends" had made its cast household names, including David Schwimmer. Although he is famous, little is known about his personal life and the relationships he has had. While directing "Run Fatboy Run" in 2007, he met Zoe Buckman, and the pair married three years later.

In 2017, the pair revealed that they were breaking up, and their divorce was finalized months later. Although not many details are known about the split, Schwimmer had described the painful moment as heartbreaking. Nonetheless, the actor has weathered through and joined the "Friends" reunion in 2021.

CHRIS PRATT & ANNA FARIS – SETTLEMENT: $0

In November 2021, "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Chris Pratt paid tribute to his loving wife, Katherin Schwarzenegger, for delivering a healthy baby girl. However, this didn't sit well with his ex-wife Anna Faris' fans, who criticized the Marvel star for not choosing his words carefully.

However, it is worth noting that Pratt and Faris, who share a son, Jack, ended things amicably, so much so that they decided not to pay a single cent to each other. Many news outlets called it an unusual divorce. The former couple did agree to live within five miles of each other for the sake of their child.

OLIVIA WILDE & TAO RUSPOLI – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

"House" actress Olivia Wilde shocked her fans when she was rumored to be dating One Direction star Harry Styles in early 2021 after her split from fiancé, actor Jason Sudeikis. Before these men, she was married to Tao Ruspoli, whom she met in 2002.

Ruspoli, an Italian prince, and Wilde's love for political activism through art was what brought them together. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to keep their marriage working, as they eventually split in 2011. Even though the split was difficult for Wilde, she said it gave her the courage to leave the relationship.

BEN STILLER & CHRISTINE TAYLOR – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $200 MILLION

Is love sweeter the second time around for comedian Ben Stiller and ex-wife Christine Taylor? The pair met in 1999, and it was love at first sight for the actor, and they got married the following year. Unfortunately, the couple called it quits in 2017 but have since been spotted together multiple times.

As per Closer Weekly, the divorce was worth $200 million. Rumors swirled that they called it off in 2018, although it remains unclear if that's the case. They starred in the Stiller-produced movie "Friendsgiving" in October 2020, fueling reconciliation speculations anew.

WISSAM AL MANA & JANET JACKSON – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED AROUND $100 – 200 MILLION

Janet Jackson is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable performers of her generation. Her skills shone through during her lively performances in "Dancing with The Stars" in 2021, and although she seemed to be in high spirits, this wasn't always the case for the "That's The Way Love Goes" hitmaker.

Jackson was previously married to billionaire Wissam Al Mana for five years before their relationship crumbled down after a series of tumultuous events. It's unclear how much their settlement reached, but according to E!Online, it could reach up to $200 million.

KEVIN COSTNER & CINDY SILVA – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $80 MILLION

"Bull Durham," "Dances with Wolves," and "Field of Dreams" were just a few of actor Kevin Costner's masterpieces. At the height of his career, his supporting wife, Cindy Silva, was by his side. The couple were college sweethearts at the California State University and got married in 1978.

However, the power pair shocked the Hollywood industry when they revealed they were going their separate ways in 1994, with Silva taking home $80 million. Nonetheless, Costner earned the amount back in numerous movies and went on to exchange vows with Christine Baumgartner in 2004.

STEVEN SPIELBERG & AMY IRVING – SETTLEMENT: $100 MILLION

As the highly acclaimed director of several iconic movies such as "Jaws," "Schindler's List," and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," it's not surprising that Steven Spielberg is sitting atop a vast fortune. As of 2021, he has a net worth of $3.7 billion, but once, he had to endure a $100-million loss after splitting from Amy Irving.

Apparently, the pair had a prenup agreement written on a tissue napkin, which the judge didn't honor. Of course, Spielberg continued to thrive in the industry after and found love again in Kate Capshaw, whom he wed in 1991.

NEIL DIAMOND & MARCIA MURPHEY – SETTLEMENT: $150 MILLION

Before "Sweet Caroline" singer Neil Diamond released his album "Touching You, Touching Me" in 1970, he first wed Marcia Murphey. Soon, the artist became one of the most celebrated in the industry, who earned around $14 million per year, according to Forbes.

However, after over two decades of being Mr. and Mrs., Murphey filed for divorce and cited irreconcilable differences. Diamond's fortune of $300 million was divided into two, but it seemed that the singer had no qualms about it, even saying that his ex-wife was "worth every penny." Anyway, the singer had found love anew in Katie McNeil, whom he married in 2012.

MICHAEL JORDAN & JUANITA VANOY – SETTLEMENT: $168 MILLION

Bank officer Juanita Vanoy and basketball player Michael Jordan exchanged vows in 1989 while already playing for the Chicago Bulls, thanks to a deal worth $25 million. On top of this, he had a lucrative endorsement contract with Nike and other brands pegged at $30 million.

Despite the steady income stream, this wasn't enough for Jordan and Vanoy's relationship to last as they decided to part ways in 2002. ROBERT JOHNSON & SHEILA CRUMP – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $400 MILLION

TV execs Robert and Sheila Johnson were a formidable force back in the day, putting up the Black Entertainment Television when they were together between 1969 and 2002. Because of their success, they became the first African-American pair to become billionaires, according to Business Insider.

However, this wasn't enough to save their marriage as they called it quits in 2002, allegedly leaving Sheila with a whopping $400 million. Weird fact: she later got together with Judge William T. Newman, the presider of the divorce. Robert, meanwhile, moved on and found Lauren Wooden.

CHANNING TATUM & JENNA DEWAN TATUM – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Actors Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's house in Beverly Hills hit the market in 2021, leaving their hopeful fans broken. Nine years after they exchanged "I Do's," they announced their separation in 2018. They agreed to joint custody of their child, Everly.

Months later, Tatum shocked his fans, and even Dewan, when he got into an on-and-off relationship with singer Jessie J. Interestingly, many saw the resemblance between the two ladies. As for the "Witches of East End" star, she fell madly in love with Steve Kazee, with whom she welcomed a child named Callum Michael.

He claimed there was no third party nor arguments that had happened before their decision, contrary to the rumors that plagued them before the announcement.

After meeting at the 2005 Met Gala, actors Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts clicked. Unfortunately, the spark didn't last forever, as they called it quits 11 years after starting their relationship. They didn't wed, but many looked up to them for their enviable love for each other.

Because they were never married, the division of their assets was expected to be complicated. Even though some fans could not get over the breakup, the involved parties did manage to move on. Watts has been in a relationship with Billy Crudup since 2017, while Schreiber has been spotted with Taylor Nielsen.

RACHEL BILSON & HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

In Tinseltown, it is easy to fall for your coworkers, especially if you spend a great deal of time together. This was precisely what happened to Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen, who, in 2007, met and got engaged. The road, however, was bumpy for the two as their relationship was marred with infidelity rumors.

Although they were never married, they spent nearly ten years of their lives together. Things may not have worked out, but they remain committed to co-parenting their child, Briar Rose. As of 2020, the former flames continue to make this set-up work for their daughter.

MARIAH CAREY & JAMES PACKER – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $5 - 10 MILLION

As a diva, "We Belong Together" hitmaker Mariah Carey deserves no less. When she met Australian billionaire James Packer in 2014, things were bound to blossom into something romantic. So when they confirmed their relationship, some fans were not surprised at all.

Packer popped a question with an expensive ring in 2016, the same year they called it quits. Carey walked out of that relationship with this bling reportedly worth $10 million and received between $5 and $10 million, which was around $50 million less of what she asked. Well, at least in 2021, the singer has found The One in Bryan Tanaka.

PHIL COLLINS & ORIANNE CEVEY – SETTLEMENT: $47 MILLION

The year 2021 had not been good to artist Phil Collins because of his public feud with his ex-wife, Orianne Cevey. Particularly, they had been at odds over the former's Miami abode, where she reportedly lived with her new lover.

Back in the day, the former couple, who met in 1994, made the headlines after Collins paid Cevey a then-record breaking $47 million when they decided to part ways. PAUL MCCARTNEY & HEATHER MILLS – SETTLEMENT: $48.6 MILLION

This list wouldn't be complete without the Beatles' member Paul McCartney's payment of $48.6 million to his ex-wife, Heather Mills, who was vocal to have heard the judge's ruling in 2008. The pair had been together for only four years before learning they weren't destined for a happy ever after in 2006.

However, the road to closure was far from quiet as both parties had made accusations against each other. According to Celebrity Net Worth, McCartney is doing very well financially as he is worth a whopping $1.2 billion.

JAMES CAMERON & LINDA CAMERON – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $25 MILLION

One would think that people need to be compatible on so many levels before they get married. "Terminator" director James Cameron and ex-wife Linda Hamilton prove that this isn't always the case. In a rare interview with People in 2019, she revealed that they both felt highly mismatched, and it remains a mystery why they got together.

The couple tied the knot in 1997 and ended their relationship two years later. Despite this, Hamilton and Cameron, who share one child, remain on good terms even though she never moved on with anybody.

KENNY ROGERS & MARIANNE GORDON – SETTLEMENT: $60 MILLION

The late singer Kenny Rogers' legacy will forever live through his hits "Through The Years," "You Decorated My Life," and "She Believes In Me." Rogers was more than okay with giving away such a hefty sum, even going as far as saying that she deserved it. After 16 enduring years, the former love birds with one child decided to part ways in 1993.

JUSTIN THEROUX & JENNIFER ANISTON – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Just when everybody thought that "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston had found her forever in Justin Theroux, they disappointed their fans when they announced their decision to call it quits in 2018, over two years since they exchanged vows. KATE BECKINSALE & LEN WISEMAN – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Since then, Beckinsale has dated several men, some of whom have been controversial. She went out with "Saturday Night Live" cast Pete Davidson for four months after his breakup with Ariana Grande. Then, she got into a relationship with Canadian musician Goody Grace in 2020, although they split after nine months.

DEMI MOORE & BRUCE WILLIS – SETTLEMENT: $90 MILLION

Breakups are never easy, and action star Bruce Willis was vocal about his heartbreak when he split from actress Demi Moore in 2000. Still, they managed to be close friends after this phase as they prioritized co-parenting their three children, Rumer, Tallulah, and Scout.

After the divorce that gave the "G.I. Jane" star $60 million, Moore moved on with now-ex Ashton Kutcher while Willis with Emma Heming. Things turned out pretty well for all parties as both women have become friends, with Moore gushing over the model in March 2021.

JOHNNY DEPP & AMBER HEARD – SETTLEMENT: $7 MILLION

We can't talk about messy and costly divorces without "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp and "Aquaman" actress Amber Heard, who continue to battle it out since they went separate ways in 2016. In a slew of nasty exchanges in and out of court, the eccentric star was ordered to pay his ex-wife $7 million.

Heard claimed she wasn't after the money and said she would donate the sum to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and American Civil Liberties Union. Depp, in 2021, requested to determine whether the accuser had really given the amount to the said organizations.

BILL GATES AND MELINDA GATES – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Bill and Melinda Gates were a picture-perfect couple who often extended a helping hand, even putting up the Giving Pledge, a campaign that encourages the affluent to vow a sizable amount of their fortune for those in need. So they surprised everyone when they announced their separation, saying that the marriage was "irretrievably broken."

Analysts were gravely concerned about the division of assets until 2021 when things were finalized. The formidable duo had collected $130 billion in assets, and if these were divided equally, Melinda would be getting a cool $65 billion.

ADELE & SIMON KONECKI – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

The year 2021 has been big for multi-Grammy winner Adele after releasing the song "Easy on Me," which she wrote during a difficult time in her life. It was pertaining to her split from ex-husband Simon Konecki in 2019. They got married secretly in 2016 but only revealed it the following year.

As per The Sun, there was no prenup agreement, and Adele allegedly tried to keep everything sealed from the public. As such, the exact settlement number hasn't been revealed. MATT LAUER & ANNETTE ROQUE – SETTLEMENT: REPORTED $20 MILLION

Even though former NBC News anchor Matt Lauer and Annette Roque shared two decades, their relationship wasn't smooth sailing. She first filed for divorce in 2006 but withdrew the request weeks later. It was believed that the broadcasters' firing from "The Today Show" in 2017 had greatly strained their marriage and what prompted her to end things.

In 2018, Page Six reported that Lauer had agreed to pay $20 million to Roque in a bid to finalize everything and to move forward. Years later, the disgraced TV personality had kept a low profile, although he did write a controversial opinion piece in 2020.

DENISE RICHARDS & CHARLIE SHEEN – SETTLEMENT: UNKNOWN

Another explosive split that had everybody on the edge of their seats was that of "Two And A Half Men" star Charlie Sheen and actress Denise Richards, who filed for divorce in 2006. As per "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" celebrity, her ex-husband was abusive toward her in the three years they had been married.

E-mails had also shown that Sheen referred to the actress as a "jobless pig." In 2019, Richards accused her former lover of failing to pay child support amounting to $450K. As of 2021, he is in a relationship with Julia Stambler.

PRINCE CHARLES & PRINCESS DIANA – SETTLEMENT: $22.5 MILLION

As shown in the 2021 movie "Spencer," Princess Diana and Prince Charles' failed relationship is proof that fairytale endings don't happen in real life, even for the royal family. Fans of the show "The Crown" have known that the pair called it quits in 1992, with Camilla Parker Bowles being dragged into the split after she was linked to the Prince of Wales.

According to The New York Times, this decision had rocked the influential clan, who announced that the People's Princess would receive $22.5 million on top of $600K for her office per year. Unfortunately, Princess Diana died in 1997 in a tragic car crash.

Their relationship didn't last long as Lopez filed for divorce from the choreographer citing irreconcilable differences in 2002. Strangely enough, they met on the set of the music video for her song "Love Don't Cost A Thing," but she ended up shelling out $14 million. Ouch!
