This question is for all the scotch-lovers out there: would you rather have one giant-sized bottle of scotch or have 444 bottles? For many, this question might be simple and they’d choose the latter. However, a wise person would always ask about the quality of scotch and whether or not it’s from the Macallan. This is because the quality of scotch matters a lot and it can bring a significant change in the price of the drink. Even the cheapest bottles from Macallan start at $100 while the more expensive ones can go up to a million dollars.
So, imagine you’ve got a 32-year-old scotch from Macallan in a massive bottle that can fill 444 normal-sized bottles.
That should add up to a massive price tag, right? Guess not.

The Auction
Despite being unique and a one-of-a-kind 311-liter bottle of scotch, which contains around 444 bottles worth of spirit in it, the Guinness world record holder for the largest bottle of scotch was unable to attract the right amount of price tag for itself. Thus, the 32-year-old scotch failed to break the record of being the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold.
The sale was orchestrated by auction house Lyon & Turnbull who announced that the 311-liter bottle of scotch went for £1.105 million, which means $1.395 million. On the other hand, the record holder, The Macallan 1926, was sold for £1.452 million, which, in October of 2019, converted to around $1.9 million.

What Went Wrong?
There’s not much that can be said about the failure of this project, however, it must be taken into account that the economy in 2022 was not what it used to be back in 2019. Secondly, the companies that had invested in this expensive project failed to understand the ground realities.
Daniel Monk, the founder of this project, shed some light on the situation and stated that for him and his team, it wasn't just about the money; it was a passion project that was initiated in honor of his father, Captain Stanley Monk.

So, what do you think about the biggest bottle of scotch?
